OTTAWA – September 12, 2024. Nicole Schwab was a young child when her uncle started a construction company in Napoleon, OH. Little did she know that 41 years later she and her fiancé Ross Beckman would purchase the company, Schwab Builders, and expand the business into a second location and into new sectors.
For decades, Schwab Builders was primarily focused on constructing commercial, elite ag, equestrian and government buildings with a small portion of its business in the residential market. In early 2024, the couple created a five year plan to expand their business into Putnam County. “It’s a special place for us with Ross having his roots and family here and we wanted our business to become part of the community,” Nicole said. Instead, pieces of their growth plan started to fall seamlessly into place, finding the right people and place to launch their second location.
The result was creation of The Barndo Company, which opened a brand new office in August at 202 W. Main St., Ottawa, inside The Dumont Building. The Barndo Company is a sector within Schwab Builders specializing in the design and construction of custom barndominiums in Northwest Ohio.
With housing in demand, it was a natural progression for the business to add innovative residential design and construction services. Schwab said they can do custom design catering to unique lifestyles or aesthetic choices, or clients can bring in their own design which is adhered to in the construction process.
“We have no words for how grateful we are for all the people that helped make this happen and how completely welcoming the community, local businesses and organizations have been during this process. Putnam County is definitely one of a kind that we are very proud to now be a part of,” she said.
Congratulations to The Barndo Company and thank you for your new membership as an investor in the Putnam County CIC.
