From Legacy to Innovative Solutions: American Trenchless Brings No-Dig Sewer Solutions to Ohio

Kalida, OH — Gerding Contracting, a century-old family business in Putnam County, is evolving once again, this time with the launch of American Trenchless — a new sister company offering cutting-edge no-dig sewer services across Northwest and Northeast Ohio.

When Jesse and Casslyn Gerding became 4th generation owners of Gerding Contracting in 2022, they were committed to continuing the family legacy while exploring innovative ways to offer clients services year-round, even in winter.

Jesse described a lull in work that contractors face during the winter and had curiosity about wintertime contracting services which quickly turned into a three-year journey of research, trade shows, and learning. During this time, he saw videos of no-dig sewer service technology being used in municipal projects, visited job sites and was mentored by a seasoned contractor in the business — ultimately leading to the Gerding’s decision to add no-dig sewer solutions to their business.

Jesse and Casslyn officially launched American Trenchless in early 2025, investing in state-of-the-art equipment, earning industry certifications, and hiring a new specialist to lead projects. Casslyn also transitioned from her career in healthcare to become the full-time operations manager for their growing businesses.

The primary benefits of the trenchless sewer technology are eliminating the need for costly excavation in residential, commercial and municipal sectors. “We’ve had great success so far — identifying and solving problems for property owners without digging up concrete, landscaping or trees,” Casslyn said. “It’s faster, less invasive, and a better experience for clients.”

About Gerding Contracting

Henry Gerding started ditching for landowners by hand using only a spade to install clay tile in 1911. In 1920 he purchased his first steam-powered wheel machine and set in motion a family business that would endure generations. Following Henry, his son Felix “Pete” Gerding, and his grandson Bill Gerding played vital roles in the business now owned by Jesse Gerding and his wife, Casslyn.
